How to effectively remove wax and citronella oil stains from floors

Summer has arrived, time for outdoor dinners with friends and chatting in the garden, all in the company of useful candles scented with lemongrass, our best ally to keep away the annoying mosquitoes. However, it often happens to discover that hateful stains are created on our floor due to the accidental pouring of candles or torch oils.

Effectively removing wax and citronella oil stains from porous floors (cotto, stone, cement, wood) can be a challenge, since these are very insidious stains and halos and you can feel very disoriented in finding an effective solution. This happens because the wax seeps into the floor material and dries inside, making it difficult to remove it.

But don’t panic, fortunately, there are some effective methods that can help you get rid of these annoying spots.

Remove lemongrass wax and oil: detailed procedure

First of all, it is important to act as fast as possible. The longer the stain remains on the floor, the harder it will be to remove. Here are some steps to follow:

  1. Scrape excess wax: Use a plastic or wood spatula to gently remove excess wax from the floor. Be sure not to scratch or damage the surface further;
  2. Harden the wax: place a plastic bag filled with ice cubes on the lemongrass wax stains or oil. Leave for a few minutes so that the wax hardens;
  3. Scrape again: After cooling and hardening the stain, use the plastic or wood spatula again to scrape the wax. Work gently to avoid damaging the surface;
  4. Prepare a cleaning solution: mix warm water with a few drops of dish detergent;
  5. Cleaning the stain: Use a soft cloth or sponge soaked in the cleaning solution and gently scrub the stain. Avoid using hard brushes or abrasive materials that could damage the floor. Keep cleaning until the stain is removed completely;
  6. Rinsing: after removing the stain, thoroughly rinse the area with clean water to remove any detergent residue;
  7. Heat with a hair dryer: if you still have wax, use your hair dryer to heat the wax, helping you remove it with paper towels.
