Micro floor: guide to treatment

6 November 2023

The microcement has become a popular choice for flooring and wall coverings due to its modern aesthetics and durability. However, to keep it in top condition over time, it is essential to follow an appropriate initial treatment and schedule proper maintenance. In this article, we will explore the complete process, from cleaning after the installation of the microcement floor and bathroom to the initial treatment and long-term storage.

What is the Microcement?

Microcement is a coating composed of a mixture of cement, resins, polymers and pigments. Its distinctive feature is the smooth, continuous surface that can be applied on a variety of materials, including concrete, ceramics, wood and more. This versatility allows you to create environments with a modern and elegant look.

Characteristics of the Microcement

Microcement offers a number of features that make it attractive:

  • Versatility: Micro-cement can be applied to existing surfaces, eliminating the need to remove previous materials. This flexibility allows for uniform, seamless spaces.
  • Contemporary aesthetics: the modern look and smooth surface give the rooms an elegant and contemporary touch. It is available in a wide range of colors and finishes.
  • Durability: The microcement is resistant to wear, stains, and moisture, making it ideal for high-traffic areas and areas exposed to water, such as bathrooms and kitchens. It is quite common to find a microcement staircase or kitchen.
  • Easy to clean: The non-porous surface of the microcement simplifies cleaning and maintenance, making it a practical choice for families.

Il rivestimento in microcemento è diventato sempre più richiesto per diverse ragioni:

Why is the Microcement Increasingly Required?

Microcement coating has become increasingly in demand for several reasons:

Aesthetics: Its modern aesthetics are highly appreciated by those seeking a minimalist and cutting-edge style.
Customization: The range of colors and finishes offers endless customization possibilities, adapting microcement to any interior design style.
Resilience and longevity: The resilience and longevity of microcement make it a long-term investment.

Common problems of micro-cement

Micro-cement is a very popular coating for floors and walls, but it can present some problems that it is important to know before using it.

One of the most common problems of microcement is the formation of cracks. This can happen if the material is not applied correctly or if the surface on which it is applied has not been properly prepared. It is therefore essential to follow the manufacturer’s instructions and ensure that the surface is properly prepared before application.

Another problem that can occur with the microcement is the appearance of stains or smudges. This can happen if the material is not properly sealed or if aggressive chemicals are used for cleaning. It is important to use specific products for the cleaning of the microcement and to seal the coating regularly to protect it from stains and damage.

Finally, another problem that can arise with microcement is wear over time. Although this material is durable, frequent use and wear can cause scratches or marks on its surface. To prevent this problem, it is recommended to use carpets or felt under heavy furniture and to avoid the use of sharp objects directly on the surface of the microcement.

After Laying Cleaning of the Microcement

After laying the micro-cement, it is essential to carry out a thorough cleaning to remove any residues of the site or impurities. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Normal Cleaning: Under normal conditions, it is possible to use UNIPUL, a detergent suitable for cleaning surfaces in microcement with RED BUFFER. This step will remove dust and light dirt.
  2. Removal of building site residues: If there are any building site residues, such as paint residues or mineral plaster, a more powerful cleaner is required. In this case, dilute DELICACID to 20/30% in water with RED BUFFER. This product will effectively remove the most stubborn residues.

Initial Treatment of the Microcement

After cleaning, it is time to apply an initial treatment to protect the microcement and prepare it for use. Here’s how to do it:

  1. LITOFLON: Apply two coats of LITOFLON with spreading fleece. It is a water-oil-repellent, water-based and odorless protective, whose main peculiarity is the resistance to residual alkalinity of the material. Protects the microcement from stains and damage caused by liquids and oily substances.
  2. PRIMAMANO: Once the first product has dried, apply PRIMAMANO NEUTRA or PRIMAMANO RAVVIVANTE. This adhesion primer is essential to facilitate the application of the anti-spot wear finish.
  3. IDROFIN: Now you are ready to apply the anti-dirt anti-wear finish. You can choose between IDROFIN LUCIDO or IDROFIN MATT, depending on your aesthetic preferences. These products protect the microcement from scratches and wear, helping to keep it in excellent condition and facilitating daily cleaning.

Maintenance of the microcement treatment

Once the initial treatment is complete, it is important to maintain the microcement over time to ensure longevity. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Ordinary Cleaning: For routine cleaning, use UNIPUL, a detergent suitable for keeping the microcement clean and free from common dirt. This step is essential to preserve the appearance of the microcement.
  2. Long Term Storage: To preserve the treatment over time and ensure the resistance of the treatment on the microcement, apply REFIX LUCIDO or REFIX MATT. These products will help to maintain the aesthetic and protective characteristics of the initial treatment.

The microcemento is an excellent choice for floors and walls due to its modern aesthetics and durability. However, proper initial treatment and regular maintenance are essential to preserve its beauty and durability over time. By following this guide, you can make sure that your microcement floor or wall covering remains attractive and durable for many years to come. The combination of Marbec products, such as LITOFLON, PRIMAMANO, IDROFIN, UNIPUL and REFIX, therefore offers a complete solution for the cleaning, initial treatment and preservation of the microcement.
